Responsible Roger or Irritated Iris?
Well I thought I was "Responsible Roger", but after digging further, it looks like, I'm just "Irritated Iris". Why? Well, even though this new iniative by Obama is supposed to help underwater homeowners before they get into serious issues, it's not meant to help everyone. I'm perfectly ok, hearing the administration say that the program won't help investors, people that are underwater on vacation homes, or people living in million dollar homes. But it appears it's not meant to help Responsible Roger either. Basically, if you can't prove hardship (such as unemployment), you're still out of luck, no matter how underwater you are.
Requirements vary... by individual situation and program, but generally include the following:
•Home must be owner occupied. No investor-owned or vacant property.
•Loan balance must be below $729,750.
•Loan must have been originated before Jan. 1, 2009.
•Borrower must owe more than 115 percent of what home is worth for principal writedown.
•For FHA program, homeowners must be current on their payments.
•Previous eligibility requirements for the Home Affordable Modification Program, such as proof of hardship, also apply.
